The July Museum will be opened to the public very soon as all preparations have been completed and a new committee has been formed, Minister for Cultural Affairs Nitai Roy Chowdhury has said.
Speaking to journalists after visiting the Mainamati Museum and Shalban Vihara in Comilla on Friday morning, the Minister explained that the museum’s committee was somewhat disorganised during the interim government’s tenure.
However, a new committee has now been constituted, and the decision has been ratified in Parliament. He added that the opening date and other related details will be announced shortly through a formal press conference.
Nitai alleged that the previous government destroyed the country’s cultural heritage. He claimed that various sectors, including education, industry, culture, law, and the judiciary, suffered significant damage over the past 18 to 20 years.
Furthermore, he said public opinion was ignored, elections were a farce, and trillions of takas were looted, leading to the destruction of the banking and insurance sectors.
The minister emphasised that the current government is working tirelessly to recover the nation’s lost heritage and cultural assets. During his visit, he inspected various archaeological relics at the Comilla Mainamati Museum and toured the Shalban Vihara.
Also present during the visit were Comilla-6 Member of Parliament Manirul Haque Chowdhury, Department of Archaeology Director General Sabina Alam and Comilla Deputy Commissioner Rosy Akter along with other departmental officials.
