A Dhaka court has granted bail to Jubo Mohila League leader Shilpi Begum on humanitarian grounds, just four hours after she was sent to jail along with her one-and-a-half-month-old baby in an explosives case.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after a hearing on Tuesday evening, according to court sources.
Farzana Yasmin Rakhi, the lawyer for the accused, confirmed the development to TIMES.
“The bail hearing began in court at 7:15pm today. We prayed for bail before the court. The court was satisfied and ordered bail on humanitarian grounds,” she said.
Earlier in the day, Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Aowlad Hossain Muhammad Jonayed had rejected Shilpi’s bail plea and ordered her to be sent to jail along with her one-and-a-half-month-old child, Kaifa Islam Simran.
The accused remains in jail at the time of filing this report, lawyer sources said. Further details regarding her release process are awaited.
