The Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal organised a protest march on Tuesday night to condemn the attack on students and activists Chattogram City College.
The procession commenced around 10pm from the premises of the university’s Shaheed Rafiq-Jabbar Hall. After traversing various roads on the campus, the march concluded in front of Shaheed Salam-Barkat Hall, where a brief rally was held.
Addressing the rally, Syeda Ananya Faria, a student of the 49th batch from the Department of Law and Justice, remarked that violence continues to occur at a time when the country necessitates healthy and democratic political practices.
She alleged that a specific group has yet to move away from the trend of violent politics, which is serving to destabilise both educational campuses and the nation at large. Faria urged those involved to transition towards a peaceful political environment, warning that general students would otherwise be forced to react against such conduct.
Zahir Uddin Babar, the convener of the JU unit of Chhatra Dal, stated that they are working towards establishing tolerant and student-welfare-oriented politics within the current political landscape.
However, he cautioned that their patience should not be perceived as a sign of weakness. He further described the attack at Chittagong City College as “reprehensible”.
Babar issued a stern warning that if violent politics are not abandoned, the JU Chhatra Dal will launch a rigorous movement in collaboration with general students. He added that any attempts to destabilise the campus would be resisted.
