Mahmudul Hasan Joy departed after scoring his career-best 171 off 286 deliveries in the first innings of the first Test against Ireland.
Mahmudul believes the hard work he put in with local coaches on his batting stance is paying off after his superb performance in the first Test against Ireland.
At stumps on the second day, Bangladesh stood strong at 338 for 1, with Joy unbeaten on 169 and Mominul Haque on 80. Before play began on the third day, Joy spoke about the changes he made in his game that helped him reach such form.
“I feel that it’s a pretty good wicket to bat on. I just played my natural game and executed my shots,” Joy said before the start of play.
He revealed that during the recent Tigers’ camp, he focused on correcting his stance with the help of his local coaches. “I worked on my stance a bit. When I shuffled, I got across a bit. So I worked with my local coaches and improved it,” he explained.
The improvement has shown in his balance and shot selection throughout the innings, as Joy looked in complete control against the Irish bowlers, especially on the offside. His compact footwork and confidence at the crease reflected the adjustments he mentioned, both off the front foot and the back foot.
Joy also took a moment to praise Mushfiqur Rahim, who is playing his 100th Test. “He (Mushi) is a legend of our cricket. We take a lot of experience from him. I wish him the best of luck in his 100th Test,” he said.
With a strong foundation already in place, Bangladesh will look to extend their lead further as Joy continues to lead the charge with his refined technique and calm approach.
