Voting for the Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (Jnucsu) election has concluded. The voter turnout was 65 percent, while for the Hall Union elections, the turnout was 77 percent.
Election Commissioner Prof Zulfiqar Mahmud confirmed the matter on Tuesday, adding that the counting of votes is underway.
Meanwhile, Election Commissioner Prof Shahidul Islam said, “The counting of votes has begun. First, we will manually screen the ballot papers to check them. We will see if there is any mark other than a cross on the ballot.
“If there is any mark other than a cross beside a candidate’s name, the vote will be cancelled.”
Earlier in the day, voting in Jnucsu election began at 9am and continued until 3pm. However, due to long queues of voters at several centres, including Economics, History, and Islamic Studies departments, beyond the scheduled time, voting continued even after the designated period.
After voting concluded, ballot boxes from all centres were brought to the Jnucsu central control room located at the university’s auditorium. The vote-counting process is being broadcast live on LED screens at various locations across the university.
Voting took place across 178 booths in 39 centres. The results are scheduled to be announced on Tuesday night after vote counting via OMR machines is completed.
