The hearing on charge framing in the murder case of Md Zobaed Hossain, a student of Jagannath University (JnU), has once again been deferred. Following a petition from the defence, the court set 8 November as the new date for the hearing.
This marks the third postponement of the charge-framing hearing.
Judge Mazharul Islam of the 20th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court in Dhaka passed the order on Wednesday. The court’s bench assistant, Majedul Islam, confirmed the development.
According to court sources, lawyers representing accused Barjis Shabnam Barsha and Md Mahir Rahman sought additional time, citing insufficient preparation and the absence of senior defence lawyers who are currently abroad.
After hearing the petition, the court granted the defence a final extension and set 8 November as the next hearing date.
All three accused are currently in jail.
On 21 October, Enayet Hossain Saikat, the victim’s elder brother, filed the murder case with Bangshal Police Station.
After nearly nine months of investigation, police submitted the charge sheet on 30 June, formally accusing three suspects in connection with the killing.
