Jewellery, money and other valuables have been looted from four temples in Satgaon Union of Sreemangal Upazila of Moulvibazar district, causing concerns among the local residents.
Locals said an organised gang of miscreants broke open the locks of Shree Shree Jagannath Temple, Kairi Para Sarbajanin Shiv Mandir, Nimai Karmakar’s family temple and Makri Chhara Shree Shree Sarbajanin Panchabati Mandir on Monday night.
Later, they stole jewellery from idols, cash from donation boxes, brass utensils, a copper mug, and other worship materials. The theft incident has caused grave concern among local community.
Sitesh Kurmi, general secretary of Makri Chhara Shree Shree Sarbajanin Panchabati Mandir, has expressed concern over the theft of the valuables and worship items.
Rakhu Deb, chairman of Satgaon Union Parishad, said, “Theft in a temple is not just a common crime, but it is a direct attack on our religious sentiment. We demand the immediate arrest and punishment of those responsible.”
While visiting the scene, Officer-in-Charge Aminul Islam of Shreemangal Police Station said police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas.
“We’ve launched an investigation and are trying to identify those involved in theft incidents,” he added.
