The India-Bangladesh white-ball series is likely to be moved to January next year. Talks between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian government are still ongoing, according to ANI.
A BCCI source said the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is now seeking a window at the start of next year. The series was earlier expected to take place in September 2026.
“The India-Bangladesh series is likely to be held in January. Discussions with the government are still ongoing, while the BCB is now seeking a window at the beginning of next year,” the BCCI source told ANI.
India were first scheduled to tour Bangladesh in August 2025. The tour was later pushed back to September 2026. However, the BCCI has not yet officially confirmed the revised dates.
The BCB announced in January that India would play three ODIs and three T20Is during the tour. The matches were planned for Dhaka and Chattogram.
The relationship between the two cricket boards became strained after the tour was announced. Tensions increased after Kolkata Knight Riders released Bangladesh all-rounder Mustafizur Rahman from their Indian Premier League squad.
The situation became more difficult when the BCB, then led by Aminul Islam, decided not to send Bangladesh to the T20 World Cup. India co-hosted the tournament.
Relations have shown signs of improving since Tamim Iqbal became BCB president. Earlier this month, Tamim visited India and reportedly toured the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
The visit was seen as a possible sign of better relations between the two boards. It also came as discussions over the India-Bangladesh series continued.
The January window is not confirmed yet. Both boards still need to finalise the schedule, while discussions with the Indian government remain ongoing.
If the series is moved to January, India and Bangladesh will play six white-ball matches. The schedule will include three ODIs and three T20Is.
The latest development gives the tour a possible new window after months of uncertainty. However, an official announcement from the BCCI or BCB is still awaited.
