Jatiya Party’s city office in Ganakpara, Rajshahi, came under attack late Friday night when demonstrators vandalised and set fire to the premises after a protest march
under the banner of “National Unity Against Fascism.”
Eyewitnesses said the protest began around 11:30pm from Shaheb Bazar Zero Point in response to the assault in Dhaka on Gano Odhikar Parishad president Nurul Haque Nur.
The march was organised by National Citizen Party chief coordinator Mobashwer Ali and drew participation from leaders, activists, and supporters of several political groups.
Chanting slogans that accused the Jatiya Party of collaborating with the administration and questioning the military’s role, protesters denounced the Kakrail attack
in which Gano Odhikar activists were reportedly beaten while preparing for a press briefing. Speakers at the rally demanded the resignation of the home affairs
adviser and called on the interim government to punish those responsible.
As the procession moved through central streets and reached Ganakpara, a section of participants stormed the Jatiya Party office. Witnesses said they smashed doors,
ransacked rooms, and dragged furniture and portraits into the street before setting them on fire.
Boalia Model Police Station officer-in-charge Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the attack, saying it occurred before police reached the scene. “We are investigating who was
involved. Legal action will be taken if formal complaints are lodged,” he said.
