State Minister Ishraque Hossain will not contest in the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election despite holding a councillor position from Brothers Union Club.

He made his stance clear on Monday while speaking to the media ahead of the June 7 BCB Board of Directors election.

“I will remain here as a councillor. But I have no direct involvement or connection with the BCB board or anything related to the election. I am not involved in the election either. It is their process and they will carry it out. As a councillor, I will go there on the day to cast my vote,” Ishraque said.

A total of 184 councillorship nominations have been submitted out of 192 available spots. Several organizations and some districts did not send nominations. That left eight councillorship positions unfilled.

Ishraque also spoke about former national stars Shakib Al Hasan and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza during the media session.

“If they have the desire to return, what steps have they taken? If they want to come back, then they should make a kind of apology to the people first and then apply to the government. After that, the government can make a decision. The government cannot simply bring someone back on its own initiative.”
