Ali Larijani, the pre-eminent security official for Iran, has cautioned that the “whole region will go dark” within 30 minutes should the United States target the nation’s electrical infrastructure.

The statement was issued in response to remarks made by US President Donald Trump regarding the potential for military action, reports CNN.

Speaking to journalists yesterday, President Trump asserted that the US could dismantle Iran’s electrical capacity in one hour, a blow he estimated would take 25 years to rectify, though he noted that “ideally, we’re not going to be doing that”.

Countering these assertions in a post on the social media platform X, Larijani suggested a much more immediate regional consequence, stating that the entire area would lose power in “less than half an hour”.

The security official further intensified his warning by suggesting that such a blackout would put American forces at risk.

Larijani stated that the resulting “darkness provides ample opportunity to hunt down US servicemen running for safety”.
