President of Gono Odhikar Parishad Nurul Haque Nur has alleged that the interim government is showing biased behavior towards the National Citizen Party (NCP).
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a prize distribution ceremony for an essay competition organised by the Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of the Bangladesh Student Rights Council on Monday at around 4:30 PM.
The event was held at the university’s Zahir Raihan Auditorium.
Presided over by Iqbal Hossain, president of the JU unit of the Bangladesh Student Rights Council, and moderated by General Secretary Nazirul Islam, speakers emphasised the need to complete necessary reforms before the upcoming elections to ensure a level playing field and to hold a free, fair, and acceptable election.
At the time, Nur said, “After the fall of fascist Hasina, the NCP made promises but broke them. After forming their own party, they have been trying to gain political advantages and continue to do so.”
He recalled the contributions of Jahangirnagar University teachers during the 2024 movement, stating that the role of JU teachers in the historic July mass uprising deserves high praise.
Nur blamed the NCP for disrupting the unity that came about as a result of the July uprising.
He further said, “We envision a Bangladesh where there will be no discrimination.” Additionally, he demanded the immediate holding of student union elections in the country’s universities.
Among others present at the event were the university’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Sohel Ahmed.
