Actor and Nirapad Sarak Chai (NISCHA) chairman Ilias Kanchan has received encouraging news regarding his brain tumour treatment, with his latest scan showing no signs of the tumour growing.
After undergoing treatment in London for around 18 months, Kanchan returned to Bangladesh on 3 August.
He spent 10 days with his family, colleagues and well-wishers before returning to London on 12 August for further treatment.
Following his return home, reports circulated on social media claiming that the actor was struggling to remember things.
However, his family physician, palliative care specialist Rubaiyat Rahman, has dismissed the reports, saying Kanchan’s memory remains normal.
Rahman, who stayed with Kanchan in London during his treatment, said the actor is currently leading a relatively normal life. He is also regularly performing the five daily prayers.
“Ilias Kanchan is maintaining his normal lifestyle and routine and is performing all five daily prayers. I have prayed with him myself, and he led the prayer. He has no problems with his food or diet,” Rahman said.
Regarding Kanchan’s brain tumour, the physician explained that the tumour is located in a difficult-to-reach area of the brain.
However, because treatment began in the UK in time, doctors were able to reduce a significant portion of the tumour through surgery.
He subsequently underwent targeted chemotherapy and radiotherapy as part of his treatment.
The most encouraging development came from Kanchan’s latest CT scan, conducted in London around 10 to 15 days before his return to Bangladesh.
According to Rahman, the scan showed no signs that the tumour had grown.
“The CT scan showed that his disease has not progressed. It is a good sign. The medication and chemotherapy are working well,” Rahman said.
Kanchan returned to London on 12 August to continue his treatment.
