ICT sets July 7 for next hearing on case against Hasina

The prosecution has concluded its hearing in the International Crime Tribunal (ICT) on case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two others. However, the tribunal has set Monday, July 7 for the next hearing after state-appointed defence lawyers requested for more time.

The order was issued on Tuesday afternoon by ICT-1, led by Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mojumder, with Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Justice Mohitul Haque Enamul Chowdhury as the other members of the panel.

State defence counsel Md Amir Hossain, appointed at public expense for Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, sought additional time, which the tribunal granted. Former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was represented by Zayed Bin Amjad.

Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam presented the prosecution’s arguments during the session.

The prosecution has brought five charges of crimes against humanity against the three accused. The formal complaint comprises 8,747 pages, including 2,018 pages of references, 4,005 pages of seized documents and evidence, and 2,724 pages listing the names of martyrs. A total of 81 witnesses have been named to support the prosecution’s case.
