From the lanes of Jiaganj in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district to becoming one of the most recognisable voices in contemporary music, Arijit Singh’s rise has often been described as extraordinary.
In a recent interview, the singer reflected on the less visible side of that journey, saying his early years were marked by intense self-discipline and constant self-critique.
Arijit said that he was initially dissatisfied with the tone of his own voice and faced considerable rejection and criticism at the start of his career. He added that over time, he worked extensively on refining his vocal technique, treating the process with near-technical precision.
According to him, the effort often involved long hours of practice and pushing his vocal limits in search of the sound he wanted to achieve. He described it as a process of shaping his voice through sustained repetition and experimentation.
The singer’s breakthrough came with the soundtrack of the film ‘Aashiqui 2’, which established him as a leading playback voice in India. Over the past decade and a half, he has delivered numerous popular tracks and remains one of the most streamed artists in the region.
Arijit also indicated that he is currently exploring different musical directions and focusing on newer creative work beyond mainstream film songs.
