The government has continued relief and awareness activities in flood-affected areas in the southeastern and northeastern regions following flash floods, landslides and hill collapses caused by heavy rainfall.
District and Upazila Information Offices under the Directorate of Mass Communication of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, along with regional information offices, have been conducting awareness campaigns to help people respond to the ongoing natural disaster situation.
According to a handout issued by the Press Information Department (PID), all 15 upazilas of Chattogram district, along with Chattogram metropolitan area, have been affected by flooding.
The Chattogram District Information Office has continued emergency public announcements on several issues, including the postponement of HSC examinations due to the flood situation, avoiding unsafe houses damaged by floods or heavy rain, maintaining health precautions, preventing snakebites, ensuring the safety of children, women, elderly people and persons with disabilities.
The awareness drives also urged people not to make financial transactions while receiving relief assistance, avoid electric poles and exposed wires to prevent accidents, and take measures to prevent dengue by ensuring that water does not remain stagnant.
In Khagrachhari, the flood situation has improved as water levels have receded from most areas, although normal conditions have not yet returned fully. There has been no rainfall in the district and no new incidents of landslides or hill collapses have been reported.
The District Information Office has continued awareness campaigns on landslides, floods and post-flood safety measures since the beginning of heavy rainfall.
In Cox’s Bazar, the number of affected unions and the municipality stands at 74. The overall flood situation in the district has improved, with 78mm of rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours. No new incidents of landslides or hill collapses have been reported.
In Rangamati, the disaster situation is currently normal. The District Information Office has continued road campaigns to raise awareness and encourage residents of landslide-prone areas to move to safer shelters.
The latest reports from Bandarban said the situation there is also normal.
The district received 30mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Water levels in the Sangu and Matamuhuri rivers are flowing below the danger level, while floodwaters have receded.
People who had taken shelter due to the disaster have started returning home. The District Information Office has continued awareness programmes and film screenings on landslides, floods and post-flood preparedness.
Meanwhile, the Sylhet region has seen rising water levels in several rivers due to increased rainfall. According to the Sylhet Regional Information Office and district information offices in Sunamganj and Habiganj, Sylhet received 33.4mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours and 37mm between 6am and 9am on the day of the report.
Water levels in the Surma, Kushiyara, Sarigowain and Piyain rivers have increased. While the Surma River is flowing below the danger level, the Kushiyara River has crossed the danger level at the Fenchuganj point.
Authorities said there is no immediate risk of new areas being inundated or prolonged major flooding, though temporary flooding continues in some low-lying areas near rivers.
In Sunamganj, the overall flood situation remains stable, although river water levels have started rising due to increased rainfall. The Kushiyara River is flowing above the danger level at the Markuli point.
In Habiganj, three upazilas — Habiganj Sadar, Bahubal and Baniachang — were affected by flash floods caused by erosion of the Khowai River. Floodwaters have started receding with reduced rainfall. The district recorded 4.5mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, and no landslides have been reported.
The District Information Office continues awareness activities in the affected areas.
In Moulvibazar, the overall flood situation remains stable. The Manu River is flowing below the danger level, though 15 unions have been inundated.
Flood conditions in five unions of Sadar upazila are gradually improving.
Breaches have also developed in the river protection embankment in Kamalganj upazila.
Public awareness campaigns by district information offices are continuing across the affected regions during both the flood and post-flood periods.
