The government aims to transform Bangladesh from a labour-driven economy into a knowledge- and innovation-driven one, with artificial intelligence, semiconductor design and bioelectronics at the core of its next growth strategy, Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam said on Sunday.
According to a press release, Faqir Mahbub Anam made the remarks while addressing a session titled “Bangladesh Deep-Tech Future” on the second day of the two-day National Semiconductor Symposium and BEAR Summit 2026 in Dhaka.
He said the government wanted Bangladesh to emerge as a developer and manufacturer of advanced technologies rather than merely a technology user. Calling for stronger “Made in Bangladesh” branding, he urged greater innovation and exports of high-tech products and technology services.
Faqir Mahbub Anam pledged continued policy, research and innovation support for the semiconductor and deep-tech sectors, saying the country’s young people were capable of leading their development. He said the government would stand beside them through research, innovation and policy support.
Describing the BEAR Summit as more than a conference, Anam said the participation of leading global technology companies, universities, industry leaders, expatriate Bangladeshis and experts showed Bangladesh was not alone in pursuing its deep-tech ambitions and marked the beginning of a broader movement to build the sector.
Addressing business leaders, he said the government remained business-friendly and would provide the support needed to create opportunities for investors and accelerate the country’s technological advancement.
The programme also featured a keynote presentation by Purdue University Senior Vice President for Partnerships and Online Dimitrios Peroulis during the global academic plenary session.
Among those attending were Ministry of Science and Technology Secretary Md Anwar Hossain, Purdue University Professor and Silicon River Bangladesh Chief Architect Professor Mohammad Mostafa Hossain, and Novo Theatre Director General Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan.
