A general diary has been filed against Bangladesh Cricket Board director Asif Akbar over an alleged financial dispute. A businessman, Md. Salahuddin Bhuiyan, lodged the GD at Ramna Model Police Station in Dhaka. A copy of the GD has been received by Daily Times of Bangladesh.
The complaint says the issue is linked to a business deal from March 4, 2016. Salahuddin claims he gave a total of Tk 2 crore 90 lakh 65 thousand to Asif Akbar. The money was handed over in the presence of Dr. Kazi Mazharul Islam and Dr. Shakil Ahmed. A part of the amount was sent to a Dutch-Bangla Bank account of Asif’s wife, Salma Asif. The rest was paid in cash.
Salahuddin said he received only Tk 39 lakh in return. He claims the remaining Tk 2 crore 51 lakh 65 thousand is still unpaid. According to the GD, Asif Akbar delayed the payment for a long time and avoided settling the dues.
The complainant said he took legal steps as he could not recover the money and was concerned about his future safety. The GD was submitted to the officer-in-charge of Ramna Model Police Station. Duty officer Abu Hanif signed the document.
Police have assigned Sub-Inspectors Pradip Chandra Roy and Mohammad Rahat Khan to handle the matter and take necessary steps.
The allegation has created fresh concern in the cricket community. There are also reports that Asif Akbar left the country for London recently.
