A gazette has been issued allocating portfolios to the members of the new cabinet led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Members of the new cabinet took oath on Tuesday afternoon. Later at night, the Cabinet Division issued the gazette distributing their portfolios. By order of the president, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani signed the gazette.
According to Rule 3(4) of the Rules of Business, 1996, the prime minister has distributed responsibilities among ministers and state ministers in addition to the ministries retained under his own charge. The order takes immediate effect.
As per the gazette, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has kept the Cabinet Division, the Ministry of Defence, and the Armed Forces Division under his direct supervision.
Among senior cabinet members, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been given the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has been assigned the Ministry of Finance and Planning while Salahuddin Ahmed has been entrusted with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Other cabinet members include Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources; Hafizuddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, Liberation War Affairs; Abu Zafar Md Zahid Hossain, Women and Children Affairs, and Social Welfare; Khalilur Rahman, Foreign Affairs; Abdul Awal Mintoo, Environment, Forest and Climate Change; and Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad, Religious Affairs.
Apart from them, other cabinet members include Mizanur Rahman Minu, the Ministry of Land; Nitai Roy Chowdhury, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs; Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir, the Ministries of Industries, Textiles and Jute, and Commerce; Ariful Haque Chowdhury, the Ministries of Labour and Employment, and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment; Zahir Uddin Swapan, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting; Mohammad Aminur Rashid, the Ministries of Food, Fisheries and Livestock, and Agriculture; Afroza Khanam (Rita), the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism; Md Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee, the Ministry of Water Resources.
