A four-year-old girl was allegedly raped in the Adampur housing area of Maheshpur upazila, Jhenaidah, on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred after the accused, a 16-year-old local boy, reportedly lured the victim with the promise of chocolate.
According to police and the victim’s family, the child was playing with friends when the suspect, Rakib Hossain, son of Babu Hossain from the same area, took her to a nearby cornfield and assaulted her. The crime was discovered when the girl returned home crying, with her clothes soaked in blood.
She was immediately rescued and first admitted to Kotchandpur Upazila Health Complex for primary treatment. Due to the severity of her condition, she was later referred to Jhenaidah General Hospital for advanced care.
Local Union Parishad member Alamgir Hossain stated that upon learning of the incident, he rushed to the scene to ensure the child was sent for medical treatment and that the alleged perpetrator was apprehended by locals.
Following the arrest of Rakib Hossain by community members on Thursday, he was handed over to the police. A case has since been registered at the Maheshpur Police Station on charges of child rape.
Officer-in-Charge Sazzadur Rahman Sazzad confirmed the arrest, stating, “The rapist Rakib has been arrested in the case. The accused will be sent to court tomorrow.”
