At least four people were killed and around 10 others injured after a passenger bus of Diganta Paribahan lost control and fell into a ditch in Vaishamura area under Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria.
The accident occurred around 12:30pm in the Baishamura area under Sarail upazila on the Dhaka–Sylhet highway, according to highway police.
Sergeant Omar, posted at Khatihata Highway Police Station, confirmed the incident.
Highway police said a passenger bus of Diganta Paribahan, travelling from Madhabpur in Habiganj towards Brahmanbaria, collided with a moving pickup van on the same direction. The bus then lost control and fell on the road, leaving four passengers dead and 10 injured.
Officer-in-charge of Highway Police Abu Taher said police, fire service personnel and local people launched rescue operations immediately after the crash. The injured were taken to hospital.
The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.
Officials said the bus was carrying around 40 to 50 passengers at the time of the accident.
Following the crash, traffic on both sides of the highway came to a standstill, causing long tailbacks.
Police said the drivers of both vehicles and their assistants fled the scene, and no one had been detained.
