Police have arrested four individuals on charges of gang-raping a young woman in the Barrister College Road area under the EPZ Police Station in Chittagong.

The arrests were made on Friday following a formal complaint regarding the incident, which reportedly took place on the night of 19 April.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Aprumong Marma, 26, Thuaiching Marma, 29, Othainu Marma, 30, and Okraija Marma. All four suspects hail from Rangamati district.

According to the case details, the 22-year-old victim is a worker at a readymade garment (RMG) factory in the EPZ area and resides in a rented house with her colleagues. On 10 April, an acquaintance of the victim arrived from Feni for medical treatment and stayed at her residence.

This arrangement reportedly led to a dispute among her acquaintances. Consequently, on the night of 19 April, the victim was lured to a house in the Barrister College Road area.

Following the incident, the accused individuals went hiding. They were subsequently apprehended during a police raid after the victim filed a complaint at the police station.

Muhammad Atiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of EPZ Police Station, confirmed that a case has been registered in connection with the incident and the arrested suspects have been sent to court.
