Police have arrested former Jaldhaka Municipality mayor in connection with a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act in Nilphamari.
Nasib Sadik Hossain Nova was detained at his home in the Traffic More area on Wednesday night. He is accused as No 6 in the case’s first information report (FIR).
According to case records, the case was filed over alleged terrorist activities surrounding the Shimulbari Union Parishad election under Jaldhaka Police Station, held on 21 June 2025.
The case is registered as Jaldhaka Police Station Case No 18/123.
Jaldhaka Police Station Officer-in-Charge Najmul Alam confirmed the detention. He said Nova was detained over his alleged involvement in terrorist activities related to the Union Parishad election.
He added that Nova would be sent to prison in accordance with standard legal procedures.
Nova previously served as president of the Jaldhaka Upazila Swechchhasebak League. He is the eldest son of the late Iliyas Hossain Bablu, a former mayor of Jaldhaka.
