Phil Foden has ended speculation over his future by signing a new four-year contract with Manchester City, committing himself to the Premier League club until 2030.
The new deal also includes an option to extend his stay by a further year, ending rumours that Turkish side Galatasaray could attempt to sign the England international this summer.
Foden described the extension as a proud moment after spending his entire career at City since joining the club’s academy as a nine-year-old.
“Committing my future to City means everything to me,” Foden said. “Playing for this club is all I’ve ever wanted to do and it’s always an honour to wear the shirt.”
The 26-year-old also welcomed the appointment of Enzo Maresca, who returned to the Etihad after previously serving as Pep Guardiola’s assistant during City’s Treble-winning campaign in 2022-23.
“I can’t wait to work with Enzo again,” Foden said. “He was brilliant during the treble season, someone all the players respected and loved working with. To have him back here is exciting.”
Director of football Hugo Viana praised Foden’s development and insisted the midfielder still has room to improve.
“Everyone at Manchester City is incredibly proud of Phil,” Viana said. “He represents everything good about our academy. He is a unique talent and his creativity is a joy to watch.”
Despite already establishing himself as one of City’s key players, Viana believes Foden’s best years are still ahead of him under Maresca as the club begin a new chapter.
