The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed five franchises for the upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), with Barishal missing out on a place in the competition.
A total of eleven organisations initially applied for team ownership. Of them, nine were invited by the BCB for discussions, excluding Chittagong Kings and Desh Travels. Later, three applicants were dropped from the preliminary list, though Desh Travels managed to remain in consideration. However, Chittagong Kings and Mind Tree Khulna Tigers were ultimately left out.
The decision came after a meeting of the BPL Governing Council at the BCB’s Navana Tower office on Tuesday afternoon, where several key matters regarding the tournament were finalised.
The confirmed franchises for the new season are Rangpur Riders, Sylhet United, Dhaka Capitals, Rajshahi Star, and Chattogram. Consequently, Comilla and Barishal failed to make the final cut.
The players’ draft will be held on 17 November, while the tournament is expected to begin on 19 January and finish on 16 February.
