SM Farhad, general secretary candidate of the Shibir-backed “Oikyaboddho Shikkharthi Jote” panel in the DUCSU election, has alleged that the BNP is creating a fearful environment on the Dhaka University campus.
He claimed that activists from Jubo Dal and BNP are stationed at nine locations around the campus. Farhad made the remarks during a press conference in front of the DU Senate building at 7:30pm on Tuesday.
Earlier, DUCSU VP candidate from Chhatra Dal, Abidul Islam Khan, said in another press briefing that activists from Jamaat and Shibir had gathered from across the country and positioned themselves around the campus.
Despite restrictions on outsiders entering the campus, he claimed he had seen Jamaat leaders from various regions on campus.
Responding to these allegations, SM Farhad said, “Today I witnessed a staged drama. They are accusing outsiders of guarding us, but we do not need any guards. Dhaka University students support us, and we will respect their opinions.”
He added, “You have seen that people from across the country have gathered to create a fearful atmosphere. The students of Dhaka University do not fear these threats. It is very unfortunate. I urge the students to speak out against any injustice.”
Vice president candidate from the Shibir-backed panel, Sadik Kayem, accused some of trying to sabotage the election. “Those attempting to disrupt the DUCSU election will face consequences worse than murderer Hasina or Chhatra League,” he said.
He added, “We are conducting the election in a festive environment, yet some are plotting to derail it. The university administration must take action against those who attempt to disrupt the vote.”
The Shibir-backed candidates also alleged that polling agents were being removed from various centres.
