Former Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) president Md Fazlul Hoque took charge as administrator of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), the country’s apex trade body, on Sunday to conduct elections within 120 days.
The Ministry of Commerce appointed Hoque under Section 17 of the Trade Organisations Act, 2022 through a notification issued on 26 July. He will oversee FBCCI’s affairs, conduct a free and fair election within the stipulated period and hand over responsibilities to the newly elected board.
Managing Director of Plummy Fashions Ltd, Hoque previously served as a director of FBCCI, giving him experience in both the country’s largest business organisation and the export-oriented apparel sector.
After taking charge, Hoque held an introductory meeting with FBCCI officials and employees, seeking their full cooperation to complete the election process within the government-set timeframe.
FBCCI Secretary General Md Alamgir pledged the secretariat’s full support, saying it would remain committed to ensuring a neutral election while continuing the organisation’s work on trade facilitation and policy advocacy.
The appointment places Hoque in charge of FBCCI until a newly elected leadership assumes office following the completion of the election process.
