Lieutenant General (Retd) Sheikh Mamun Khaled, the former director general of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), has petitioned for bail.
The bail petition leads to a case filed at International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on charges of crimes against humanity concerning enforced disappearances during the regime of fallen Awami League government.
The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has fixed 6 September for the hearing on his bail petition.
Although the tribunal conducted proceedings on other scheduled matters on Tuesday, the hearing on Mamun Khaled’s bail application did not take place, after which the tribunal rescheduled the hearing for the new date.
Advocate Obaidullah Emon represented Mamun Khaled in court, while Prosecutors Faruk Ahmed, Shahidul Islam Sardar, and Tarek Abdullah appeared on behalf of the prosecution.
Tuesday was also slated for the submission of the investigation report in this case. However, as the investigation remains incomplete, the prosecution requested an extension, and the tribunal subsequently granted the application to submit the investigation’s progress report.
On 13 April, Mamun Khaled was shown arrested in this case, and the court granted a two-day permission for his interrogation. Earlier, on the night of 25 March, he was arrested from his residence in Mirpur DOHS and has been in prison since.
The case is part of the ongoing investigation and judicial trial process at ICT centring on enforced disappearances committed during the fallen Awami League government’s tenure.
