Ex-CJ Khairul gets bail in 4 cases

The High Court has granted bail to former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque in four cases filed on charges of murder and manipulation over verdict.

A bench of Justice Md Khairul Alam and Justice Md Sagir Hossain passed the order on Sunday after declaring the previous rule valid.

On 19 October 2025, former chief justice Khairul submitted a bail petition. Following a hearing, on 26 October, the HC issued a rule asking why he should not be granted bail in the cases.

Lawyers Monsurul Haque Chowdhury, Sara Hossain, and Sayeed Ahmed Raja, along with Monayem Nabi Shahin, represented the accused. Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Al Mahmud Masud appeared for the state.

On 24 July last year, Khairul was arrested from his residence in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area. Later, he was shown arrested in a case filed under Jatrabari Police Station over the killing of Jubo Dal activist Abdul Kaiyum Ahad during the July uprising in 2024.

Other cases filed against him include verdict forgery related to the caretaker government, and a corruption case filed by the ACC over the purchase of a Rajuk plot.

Among these, rules were issued in five cases regarding bail, but hearings were held on four of them on 4 March. The ACC case is scheduled for hearing on 11 March before another High Court bench.
