A retired Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) member died and three others sustained injuries in a head-on collision between two motorcycles in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur on Thursday.
The accident took place in front of the CCBL fuel station in Suadi village under Algi union along the Dhaka–Khulna highway in the evening.
The deceased was identified as Alimuzzaman Matubbar, 55, son of Hossain Matubbar of Uttarkandi village under Kaichail union in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur. He was a former BGB member.
Local people and Fire Service sources said he met with the accident while returning home on a motorcycle carrying sacrificial meat.
Bhanga Fire Service Station Manager Abu Jafar said firefighters rushed to the spot after receiving information about the crash. They recovered the body and rescued the injured before taking them to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.
Bhanga Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Helal Uddin said the accident occurred when another speeding motorcycle attempted to overtake Alimuzzaman’s motorcycle from behind, causing a head-on collision between the two bikes.
He died on the spot, the OC added.
Doctors later referred the critically injured victims to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment after providing primary care.
