A Dhaka court sent former lawmaker from Kushtia-1 constituency AKM Sarwar Jahan Badsha to jail in a case filed over the murder of electrician Ilias Hossain in Mohammadpur area of the capital during the July uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazur Rahman passed the order after police produced Sarwar before the court and pleaded to keep him behind bars.
AKM Sarwar Jahan Badsha was arrested from Bosila area under Mohammadpur Police Station in the city on Tuesday.
According to the case statement, electrician Ilias joined an anti-discrimination student rally in front of Allah Karim Mosque in Mohammadpur on August 4, 2024.
Ilias got shot on his head and later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital on August 9 last year.
Father of the victim filed the case on September 28, 2024.
