The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Commerce of Yunnan Province, China, to support Bangladeshi exporters.
This agreement, signed at the Mekong-Lancang Fruit Festival, aims to create new opportunities for Bangladesh’s export sector, with a focus on facilitating trade between Bangladesh and China.
The MoU offers several key benefits for Bangladeshi enterprises. Rent-free bonded warehouses of up to 2,000 square meters will be available, helping to reduce supply chain costs and providing easier access to the Chinese market. Additionally, rent-free exhibition space of up to 2,000 square meters will give Bangladeshi exporters a platform to promote their products and engage with international trade partners.
A key feature of the MoU is free access to Yunnan’s designated online commodity city. This digital platform will allow Bangladeshi exporters to display and trade products, reaching a wider customer base.
The agreement also includes measures to reduce logistics fees, improving operational efficiency and lowering trade costs. Fast customs clearance for fresh agricultural products will ensure timely delivery, while preferential air freight and logistics policies will reduce transportation costs, boosting the competitiveness of Bangladeshi goods.
The MoU was signed by EPB Director General Baby Rani Karmakar and Deputy Director General of the Department of Commerce of Yunnan Province Ma Jun.
Consul General of Bangladesh in Kunming Khaled, Commercial Counsellor at the Bangladesh Embassy in Beijing Ziaur Rahman, and First Secretary of Commerce at the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Kunming Ridwan were present at the signing ceremony and the festival’s inauguration.
This MoU marks a significant step in the government’s strategy to diversify exports and explore new markets. By providing access to logistics, exhibition space, and digital platforms, it enhances the ability of Bangladeshi enterprises to compete in China’s fast-growing consumer market.
The agreement offers not just infrastructural support but also strategic tools for success, like the online commodity city and fast customs clearance. As Bangladesh builds a portfolio of products in high demand in China, including garments, agro-products, and processed foods, these measures will help ensure a smoother and more competitive entry into the market.
The MoU positions Bangladesh as a credible player in international markets, providing opportunities for learning and branding in Yunnan, with lasting benefits for the country’s export sector.
