Parvez Hossain Emon has been called up to replace Litton Das in Bangladesh’s squad for the UAE tri-nation series after the captain was ruled out of the tournament with a right hip joint injury, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed on Saturday.
Litton’s absence was confirmed after an MRI scan revealed a problem in his right hip joint. The wicketkeeper-batter had missed Bangladesh’s opening match against Zimbabwe earlier in the day, with vice-captain Towhid Hridoy leading the side in Abu Dhabi.
Emon, a left-handed batter who has played three ODIs for Bangladesh, last featured in the format against Sri Lanka in Pallekele in 2025. He was part of Bangladesh’s squad for the recent ODI series against Zimbabwe but was left out of the squad for the ongoing tri-nation tournament.
The series opener was supposed to mark the beginning of Litton’s tenure as Bangladesh’s full-time ODI captain.
However, BCB physiotherapist Bayejedul Islam Khan said the 31-year-old reported pain in his right hip on Friday, prompting an MRI scan.
“Litton Kumer Das complained of pain in his right hip joint yesterday, so we conducted an MRI scan. The report showed that he has a problem in his right hip joint,” Bayejedul said in a video message released by the BCB.
Litton attempted a fitness test on Saturday in the hope of playing against Zimbabwe but failed to meet the required benchmark.
“He still tried to complete the fitness test today to see whether he could play. However, he could not meet the benchmark we wanted, so he is unavailable for this series,” Bayejedul added.
Team manager Nafees Iqbal told TIMES that the decision to rule Litton out of the opening match came at the last minute, as the captain remained uncertain about his fitness even before arriving at the ground.
“It was a tight situation. I would say the decision was made after coming to the field,” Nafees said.
Allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz also missed the opening match after suffering from fever for the previous three days.
