Power Grid Bangladesh PLC has achieved full capability to safely transmit electricity from the first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant to the national grid.
On Monday at 3:32pm, the company reached this milestone by successfully launching the “Rooppur-Gopalganj 400 kV transmission line.”
In a press release, the Power Grid authorities stated that this marks a significant advancement toward transmitting electricity from the country’s first nuclear power project.
The 158-kilometer-long Rooppur-Gopalganj transmission line contains a total of 414 towers. Through this line, electricity from Rooppur’s first unit can now be safely supplied to the national grid.
Earlier, two other high-voltage transmission lines were launched to ensure the “physical startup” of Rooppur’s first unit. Among them, the “Rooppur-Baghabari 230 kV transmission line” was launched on June 30, 2022, and the “Rooppur-Bogura 400 kV transmission line” was launched on April 30, 2024.
With the new line in operation, a total of three transmission routes are now active for the Rooppur plant, each with a capacity to carry 2,000 megawatts of electricity.
With all three lines fully operational, a practical infrastructure is now in place for uninterrupted supply of electricity from the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant to the national grid. This marks a major achievement in the country’s energy security and technological capability.
