An elderly man was allegedly beaten and hacked to death in the Maharag area of Narail Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon following a dispute over a local football match.

The deceased, identified as Mostafa Kazi, 65, was a resident of Maharag village, located between Poloidanga and Bhadrabila villages.

According to the victim’s family and local police, the conflict originated from a football match held last Monday at the Bhadrabila Bazar area between teams from Bhadrabila and the neighboring Poloidanga village.

While a dispute broke out during the game, two subsequent attempts to mediate the matter failed to reach a resolution.

Family members alleged that Mostafa Kazi, who originally hailed from Poloidanga, was attacked by several individuals from the Bhadrabila area around 3pm on Friday while on his way to Bhadrabila Bazar.

The attackers reportedly beat and hacked him, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rescued Mostafa and rushed him to Narail District Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead upon arrival.

Police confirmed the killing and said an investigation is underway. No arrests had been reported as of Saturday.

The allegations against those accused could not be independently verified.
