The Election Commission (EC) has published the final gazette notification outlining the boundaries of all 300 parliamentary constituencies for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The final demarcations will serve as the official demarcation for the next general election. Under the revised delimitation, Gazipur will now have six constituencies, up from five, while Bagerhat’s seats have been reduced from four to three.
Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed disclosed the information on Thursday evening, stating, “The gazette notification on the revised demarcations of 300 parliamentary constituencies for the 13th national election has been finalized and published.”
The EC formed a specialised committee to review and recommend boundary adjustments ahead of the election. On July 30, the commission published the draft delimitation, retaining existing boundaries for 261 constituencies and making minor adjustments in 39 constituencies.
The public was given until August 10 to file objections or suggestions regarding the draft.
According to the EC Secretary, the commission received a total of 1,893 submissions, including 1,185 objections related to 84 constituencies in 33 districts, and 708 suggestions or recommendations. These inputs came from both supporters and opponents of the proposed changes.
From August 24 to 27, the EC held four days of hearings on the objections and proposals. The Secretary previously stated that the commission would publish the final list as soon as the review process concluded.
The finalized constituency demarcations are now legally binding and will be used in the forthcoming parliamentary polls.
