Timothée Chalamet has offered audiences an early glimpse of ‘Dune: Part Three’, the concluding chapter of Denis Villeneuve’s ambitious sci-fi trilogy. The actor shared a first-look image on social media, confirming his return to the desert world of Arrakis.
The film is currently scheduled for release on December 18 and is expected to face major box office competition from ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
The previous instalment, ‘Dune: Part Two’, followed Paul Atreides as he aligned with the Fremen and embraced his role in a widening conflict against the Harkonnen empire. The story concluded with Paul seizing power and setting in motion a far-reaching holy war.
The sequel expanded the ensemble cast, introducing Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen and Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan. Léa Seydoux also joined the franchise, while brief appearances by Anya Taylor-Joy hinted at a larger role to come.
Several returning cast members are set to reprise their roles in the third film, including Josh Brolin and Jason Momoa. Robert Pattinson has also joined the cast, reportedly taking on the role of antagonist Scytale.
The upcoming film will draw from Dune Messiah, the second novel in Frank Herbert’s acclaimed series. Development of the project was confirmed by Legendary Pictures in 2024, with Villeneuve returning as director.
Dune: Part Two proved both a critical and commercial success, earning two Academy Awards and surpassing $700 million at the global box office. Villeneuve had indicated even before its release that a third instalment was part of his long-term vision for the saga.
Composer Hans Zimmer has also signalled continuity behind the scenes, revealing that work on the score began during production on the second film, underscoring the scale and planning behind the trilogy’s final chapter.
