Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam rejected a proposal to increase the signboard tax on Thursday.
Revenue Department sources said DSCC is struggling to cope with the growing demand for civic services and increasing development pressures. As a result, an informal proposal was submitted to the Administrator to increase the signboard tax currently collected as part of existing trade license in order to enhance the corporation’s own-source revenue.
However, the sources said that the DSCC Administrator directly rejected any such proposal to increase the tax at a programme held at Nagar Bhaban Auditorium in Dhaka, said a press release.
Abdus Salam said, “No unreasonable tax burden should be imposed on citizens.”
Instead of increasing tax rates, he instructed officials to create new revenue streams. He also emphasised achieving citizen satisfaction through the proper and transparent implementation of the existing budget.
