Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) carried out an eviction drive and mobile court operation at Dhanmondi Lake on Tuesday, removing illegal structures and imposing fines as part of its ongoing efforts to protect public spaces. The operation was led by Executive Magistrate Md Aminul Islam, DSCC said in a press release.
The drive was conducted to preserve urban aesthetics, ensure free public movement and clear government-owned open spaces of illegal occupation, according to the statement. DSCC added that the action forms part of its regular enforcement activities in the capital.
During the operation, all illegal temporary structures, tin-shed shops and street vendors operating beyond lease conditions in and around Dhanmondi Lake were removed, restoring public access to the area.
Authorities also filed four cases and collected fines totalling Tk 3,000 for illegal occupation of footpaths and public spaces used for commercial activities.
The executive magistrate said monitoring would continue to ensure public convenience and maintain the lake’s aesthetic environment.
DSCC authorities said mobile court drives and eviction operations will continue regularly to keep footpaths, roads and open spaces free from illegal encroachment. The corporation also urged citizens to cooperate in building a clean, safe and livable modern Dhaka by refraining from such activities.
