Eminent jurist, veteran politician and one of the architects of Constitution, Dr Kamal Hossain, has been admitted to a city hospital after becoming seriously ill.
The 88-year-old Gono Forum founder is now undergoing treatment at Square Hospital, party General Secretary Mizanur Rahman told the media.
He said Kamal Hossain is suffering from lung-related complications and is currently under supervision of specialist doctors. The party has appealed to the public to pray for his speedy recovery.
Despite his ill health, Kamal Hossain had recently participated in several national programmes. On Wednesday, he attended the funeral prayer of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Manik Mia Avenue. His condition reportedly deteriorated following the event.
Dr Kamal Hossain played a pivotal role in Bangladesh’s political and constitutional history. He headed the Constitution Drafting Committee in 1972 and later served as law minister and foreign minister in Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s cabinet.
