Two youths have been killed and three others injured in separate attacks by miscreants within a span of just a few hours in Khulna city.
The second victim, identified as Nazmul, 19, son of Monir Hossain, was killed at approximately 9:45pm on Wednesday in the Shishubagan 80 Bigha area under Labanchara Police Station. According to police and eyewitness sources, miscreants targeted Nazmul with gunfire.
After he collapsed to the ground, the attackers hacked him with sharp weapons to ensure his death before fleeing the scene.
Earlier that evening, at around 6pm, another youth named Manjurul Islam, 22, was shot dead in the same locality.
Three other individuals were also hacked and wounded during that attack. Relatives of the deceased stated that Manjurul worked in centring with his father and had no known prior enmities with anyone.
Syed Mosharraf Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Labanchara Police Station, noted that the first incident is suspected to have stemmed from a dispute regarding a football match at a local field.
Police confirmed that an investigation is underway to identify and arrest those involved in the double homicide occurring within such a short interval.
