Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is set to launch an early crash programme to address possible waterlogging and control dengue ahead of the upcoming monsoon season.
The initiative aims to identify potential waterlogging points and ensure rapid drainage of rainwater.
At the same time, DNCC plans to carry out special campaigns to control dengue mosquitoes during the rainy season.
The decisions were taken at a divisional coordination meeting held on Thursday morning at the Gulshan Nagar Bhaban, chaired by DNCC Administrator Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Khan.
After the meeting, the administrator said “Areas such as Airport Road and Mirpur, where waterlogging is likely during rainfall, have been identified and necessary steps will be taken to keep drains and canals functional for quick water drainage.”
“Instructions have been given to the chief engineer and chief waste management officer in this regard” he added.
He also said “The meeting decided to launch a special campaign to control dengue mosquitoes ahead of the monsoon. The chief health officer has been instructed to strengthen ongoing efforts to destroy mosquito breeding sites.”
The meeting also discussed the rapid removal of sacrificial animal waste during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. DNCC has decided to form 10 monitoring teams across its 10 zones to make waste management more effective and timely.
In addition, instructions were given to identify suitable locations for large-scale tree plantation during the monsoon season in the capital.
Senior officials from different departments of DNCC attended the meeting.
