Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has launched a special cleaning and mosquito control campaign titled “Clean School, No Mosquito” across 536 educational institutions under its jurisdiction.
The campaign aims to reduce the risk of Aedes mosquito breeding following the long Eid vacation, reads a press release.
After the prolonged holiday, the risk of Aedes mosquito breeding and proliferation increases in offices, schools, colleges and other buildings and premises.
In this context, the initiative has been taken to prevent dengue among students. The campaign was inaugurated this morning at the Dhaka Residential Model School and College campus by DNCC Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan.
Speaking at the inauguration, he said, “Summer is approaching. There is a risk of increased dengue cases during this period, so we must prepare in advance. After a long closure, school and college campuses are reopening. Special emphasis is being given to ensure that Aedes mosquitoes do not breed in these campuses.”
He further said that everyone must remain alert to prevent mosquito breeding. “We want to build a livable, mosquito-free and odor-free city.”
DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury said, “Due to the long closure of schools, cleanliness has been compromised in many places.
Considering that students are the future of the country, this special programme has been undertaken to ensure their well-being. We have set a target to clean all 536 educational institutions under DNCC within three days.”
Under the programme, a coordinated three-day mosquito control operation will be carried out in 536 schools, colleges and madrasas under DNCC. This includes removal and destruction of Aedes mosquito breeding sources and habitats.
As part of the initiative, all possible sources where Aedes mosquitoes can breed will be removed or destroyed. In addition, larviciding and adulticiding activities will be conducted in closed classrooms, school premises and surrounding areas.
Students will also be provided with necessary awareness sessions on Aedes mosquito and dengue prevention.
