A Chandpur court on Tuesday showed former minister Dipu Moni arrested in three separate cases filed over incidents linked to the 2024 student-public movement.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Abdul Mannan passed the order after the accused was virtually produced before the court.
According to court sources, the investigating officers of the three cases-Inspector (Investigation) Mintu Dutta of Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station, Sub-Inspector Nadir Shah, and Sub-Inspector Nur-e-Alam-submitted applications seeking to show the accused arrested. The court granted the petitions, citing the interest of the investigation.
Investigating officer Nadir Shah said that the residence of district BNP president and current MP Sheikh Farid Ahmed Manik was vandalised, set on fire, and looted on 18 July and 4 August, 2024.
Dipu Moni was named as the prime accused in the case, with allegations that the attack was carried out under her instruction.
In another case, Inspector Mintu Dutta said that on 4 August, attackers allegedly assaulted students and members of the public in the bus stand area of the town, naming Dipu Moni as the main accused for instigating the violence.
Sub-Inspector Nur-e-Alam, who is investigating a separate case, said that on the same day, during protests at the old bus stand area, vehicles of the Roads and Highways Department were allegedly set on fire on her directive.
No lawyer appeared on behalf of the accused during the hearing. Dipu Moni addressed the court herself, denying her involvement in the incidents.
The court noted that all three incidents occurred in Chandpur and that Dipu Moni had been named in the case statements as an instigator.
It subsequently approved the applications to show her arrested in all three cases.
Dipu Moni is currently being held at Munshiganj District Jail.
