A Chattogram court on Wednesday placed alleged top criminal Mobarak Hossain Emon alias David Emon on a fresh five-day remand in a separate case filed with Hathazari Police Station over extortion.
Chattogram Judicial Magistrate Lokman Hakim passed the order after hearing.
Chattogram District Court Inspector Habibur Rahman said police sought seven days’ remand for questioning Emon in the case. After hearing the plea, the court granted five days’ remand.
Earlier, on 2 August, another Chattogram court had granted Emon 10-day remand in a separate case.
Emon, 25, is the son of late Mohammad Musa of Kanchannagar in Fatikchhari upazila.
Police said Emon and three others were arrested from Jhumjhumpur area under Jashore Kotwali Police Station on 29 July.
According to Chattogram district police, Emon’s whereabouts were traced during the investigation into the murder of Maksudul Haque Chowdhury in Pahartali on June 13, based on information gathered through the probe and subsequent intelligence operations.
He was later arrested in Jashore.
Based on information obtained from the arrested suspects, police raided an abandoned house in Manikpur area of Kanchannagar Union in Fatikchhari early on 30 July.
Police said they recovered a foreign-made pistol, two locally made LG firearms and other weapons during the raid.
Police said 13 cases, including those involving murder, arms and extortion, have been filed against Emon with different police stations in Chattogram city and district.
Investigators are also looking into his alleged involvement in several other killings, police said.
