Tropical Storm Senyar has lost strength after crossing the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, but unsettled weather marked by persistent rain, strong winds and choppy seas is expected to continue in several states until tomorrow, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
MetMalaysia director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said the system, now downgraded to a low-pressure area, was centred over the peninsula’s central region after coming ashore around midnight between Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, reports Bernama.
He noted that although the storm is weakening, it is still projected to track eastward towards the South China Sea, potentially intensifying rain and wind conditions in parts of Pahang and Terengganu.
“Cloud development linked to the system remains active despite its reduced intensity. MetMalaysia will keep monitoring the situation closely and issue updated advisories or warnings when necessary,” he said in a statement.
Dr Hisham also advised the public to remain cautious and rely on verified information from MetMalaysia’s website, the myCuaca app, its official social media channels and its hotline (1-300-22-1638).
The storm was first detected moving into the Strait of Melaka at around 3:30pm yesterday, raising concerns about continuous heavy rainfall, strong winds and rough sea conditions in Selangor, Perak and parts of Pahang.
