Chittagong Stock Exchange PLC (CSE) observed International Women’s Day by hosting the “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality” programme at its premises on Sunday.
The event was organised in line with the global theme “Ring the Bell for All Women and Girls: Rights. Justice. Action.” to highlight the importance of gender equality in workplaces and business, the bourse said in a statement.
The “Ring the Bell” initiative is observed by stock exchanges worldwide with support from the United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative, World Federation of Exchanges, UN Women, UN Global Compact and International Finance Corporation.
Managing Director M Shaifur Rahman Mazumdar presided over the programme.
The exchange marks International Women’s Day each year to strengthen its commitment to building a supportive and inclusive work environment, he said.
Mazumdar said the bourse plans to monitor measures to ensure a standard working environment for women and improve coordination among departments to strengthen gender equality.
He added that the exchange already provides a balanced and competitive environment for employees and will continue efforts to expand opportunities for women in the organisation.
Chief Regulatory Officer Mohammed Mahadi Hassan said equal opportunity in corporate workplaces must begin with awareness and practice at the individual level.
General Manager and Head of Information Technology Mohammed Mazbah Uddin said female employees at the exchange are working alongside male colleagues with equal efficiency.
General Manager and Head of TREC Marketing Services Md Mortuza Alam said stronger awareness and coordinated action are needed at both individual and institutional levels to advance gender equality.
General Manager and Head of Business and Market Development Department Mohammad Monirul Haque said the exchange will continue efforts to promote gender equality in line with global standards.
Participants emphasised the need for continuous efforts to ensure respect, equal opportunity and a supportive environment for women both at home and in workplaces.
The programme concluded with the exchange honouring female officers with flowers and mementos, while a female executive received a special crest as the ‘Woman of the Year’ from the CSE family.
