A Dhaka court ordered the seizure of income tax documents of AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, a retired judge of the Appellate Division, and six others amid an ongoing probe over graft allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz issued the order on Sunday, following seven separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The others whose tax files were ordered to be seized are- former minister Tipu Munshi, his wife Irene Malabika Munshi, former state minister Md Shahriar Alam, Dr. Md Enamur Rahman, former member of parliament Md Mujibul Haque, and Golam Faruk Khondaker Prince.
According to the ACC’s petition, investigations are underway against the accused over allegations of illegal accumulation of wealth and money laundering by abusing power and engaging in corruption.
It is necessary to seize and review the income tax records of the accused up to the 2024–25 fiscal year for the sake of a proper investigation.
