BKSP hosted a seminar on Wednesday in Savar that brought together leading figures from Bangladeshi football and cricket to discuss the future development of the two sports.
The event, held at the Audio Visual Centre of the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan, was chaired by Brig Gen Md Munirul Islam, the director general of BKSP. The seminar, titled The unique role of Bangladesh football and Bangladesh cricket in the overall development of national sport, aimed to examine the traditions, history, limitations and future priorities of both games.
The keynote speakers were MM Kaiser, sports editor of Amar Desh, and Rezwan Uz Zaman, special correspondent of Channel 24 and president of the Bangladesh Sports Press Association. The audience included a broad mix of elected representatives from the Bangladesh Football Federation and the Bangladesh Cricket Board, former national players from both sports, club organisers, coaches and sports journalists.
Among those present were former national cricketer Javed Omar Belim, former national footballer and coach Shafiqul Islam Manik, senior BCB coach Dipu Roy Chowdhury of the High Performance unit, former national striker Sheikh Mohammad Aslam, former national captain and BCB head of operations for game development Habibul Bashar Sumon, and former national footballer and coach Swapon Kumar Das.
Speakers discussed the shared responsibilities of football and cricket in strengthening the country’s sporting landscape, focusing on structural challenges and opportunities for long term progress. In closing the seminar, Brig Gen Munirul Islam expressed hope that both sports would continue to advance together for the wider success of Bangladesh’s sporting community.
