A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered the freezing of 15 bank accounts belonging to Shamim Enterprise owner M Shamim Hashem and his associates over graft allegation.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir passed the order following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC lawyer Tarikul Islam confirmed the development.
According to the ACC, a case was filed against Shamim Hashem over allegations of acquiring Tk10.83 crore in assets beyond his known sources of income. The case is now under investigation.
During the investigation, the anti-graft agency found information about movable assets kept in various bank accounts in the names of Shamim Hashem and people associated with his interests.
he ACC told the court that the assets appeared to be inconsistent with his known sources of income and alleged that he was attempting to transfer or dispose of the money.
The commission said transferring the assets before the investigation was completed could hamper the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
It therefore sought an order to freeze the accounts until the investigation is completed.
After hearing the application, the court ordered the freezing of the 15 accounts, which collectively hold Tk 3,69,01,416.
